Hi, I’m Tye Johnson, DNP, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, educator, and speaker focused on women’s mental wellness.
I help women make sense of the mental and emotional changes that can happen when stress, hormones, life transitions, and the nervous system all start talking at once. Sometimes that shows up during perimenopause or menopause. Occasionally it looks like anxiety, overwhelm, poor sleep, brain fog, irritability, burnout, or simply thinking, “Something is off, and I don’t know why.”
My work sits at the intersection of clinical science and real life. I care about evidence, but I also care about lived experience. The things women say privately. The things they whisper in the car after holding it together all day. The invisible exhaustion of being capable, dependable, and everybody’s person while quietly wondering when you stopped feeling like yourself.
Through education, speaking, digital resources, and FLOURISH, I translate complicated mental health information into conversations and tools women can actually use.
My work centers on creating culturally aware spaces for Black and Brown women while welcoming women from all backgrounds who want to better understand their mental and emotional health.
Clinical psychiatric services are offered separately through JMS Behavioral Health.
My Story
I did not choose this work because it was popular or the latest thing. I chose it because, time after time, I saw the same story play out. Different names, different lives, but the same struggle. She would come in and say, “Something is off.” Not in a dramatic way. Not looking for attention. Just honest. Just off.
She’s forgetting words right in the middle of a sentence. Snapping at people she loves. Crying over little things, then feeling numb. She’s sleeping, but still waking up tired. She’s trying to hold it together at work while her brain feels like it has 37 tabs open and someone keeps playing music in one of them. Sometimes hormones are part of the story.
Sometimes it’s chronic stress, burnout, grief, life changes, or years of carrying more than anyone realizes. And let’s be honest, it’s often more than one thing at once. Too many women have already heard, “Your labs are fine.” “It’s just stress.” “That’s normal.” “Try to rest.” As if rest is something you can just grab off the shelf.
Over time, I realized women are not being too sensitive. They are being under-supported. This is especially true for Black and Brown women, who often walk into healthcare settings carrying the extra weight of not being believed, all while still being expected to stay strong.
That is why I created FLOURISH.
FLOURISH helps women see how their mental health, stress, hormones, life experiences, and nervous system are all connected. The goal is not just to keep pushing through, but to finally understand what you actually need.
